She's currently sprawled out on her bed in the motel room, drumming her fingers against the map lightly.]
Do you want to head north or south next?
no subject
It doesn't matter to me. Unless you've heard of anything cool to do in either of those directions. Festivals, celebrations, a place that makes great mai tais...
[ She trails off, wrapping a ponytail holder around her bun and letting go, when the bun sags a little from the weight of her hair. ]
Aren't there ruins north of here?
[ Unfolding herself from her position, she moves to kneel in between the beds and cross her arms on Cora's, looking intently at the map. Exploring ancient ruins could be fun. Of course, they'd have to be Indiana Jones-type ruins and not a tourist trap where they sell postcards and little salt and pepper shakers in the shape of pyramids at the gift shop. Granuaile's itching for a little adventure. ]

Yes! Some kind of Native American temple or something.
[She glances back up again before giving a shrug.]
Worth checking out?

[ With an excited look, she hops up to her feet (balance 9) and ends up flailing her arms for a second as she goes off balance. Okay, that didn't turn out as graceful as she'd hoped. But once she settles her feet apart and stops moving her arms, she lets out a breath. ]
Nailed it! Let's get our gear together.

Let's get a look at the map again. I think we just take the main road out of town and there's a turn off when we're close?
no subject
[Map reading on the move? Not exactly Cora's strongest skill set, but she does alright (navigate 12). It helps that the car doesn't jostle much as they go, and soon they're pulling up to the place in question.]
This is it.
no subject
Let me get my staff out of the back. Just in case.
[ This doesn't look like a place where there are security guards or tours, so hopefully no one will come along to tell her to put it away. ]
no subject
Want to try this one first?
no subject
Yeah definitely. It looks like we can walk side by side, at least to start.
[ And off she goes! ]
no subject
Kind of boring, unless you're into that sort of thing.]
no subject
It's so peaceful here. I hope no one minds that we're walking through.
[ To her, the "no one" she's referring to is the earth itself, the local elemental, the trees, the grasses and moss, everything. ]
no subject
Don't jinx it.
[Because someone probably will mind if they keep going.]
no subject
[ She lifts her index finger to her lips, a mischievous look in her eyes. If trouble's coming, it's less because she's jinxed them and more because they're cursed in general. It seems the more peaceful you want to be, the more people come along to jack it all up. At least in Granuaile's case. She's not sure how peaceful a person Cora is. ]
I am curious why this temple doesn't have a big parking lot and gift shop near it. Maybe it's a protected site.
no subject
Or maybe they just haven't gotten around to it yet.

[ She moves over to a tree just off the path and lightly knocks on the trunk. She manages to depress a knot in the wood that's actually a hidden button and suddenly a few feet in front of them, the path lifts up, a trapdoor controlled by some ancient pulley system lifting up to reveal stone steps leading down a dark hole. ]
Um. The fuck?
[ So eloquent, this one. ]
no subject
Wanna check it out?
no subject
[ Flashing Cora a grin, she heads over to the entrance, looking down in. Then she takes out her keys to use the flashlight on her keychain, shining the beam of light down in. ]
Well, here goes.
[ She sets her foot down on the first step, testing if it'll hold her weight. When it seems secure, she starts down in (balance 20) and soon she's made it to the bottom with ease, as if she's just headed down into the cellar to grab a jar of preserves. ]
Feels pretty sturdy to me.
no subject
There's something over here.
no subject
[ She turns the beam over towards the wall and frowns (investigate 10). ]
I can't make it out. It looks too faint, or else my flashlight just sucks.
[ She taps it against her palm a few times but the beam doesn't get any brighter. ]
Can you tell what it is?
no subject
Almost seems like a story. Maybe with hieroglyphics?
no subject
[ She steps closer and holds out a finger, tracing the air in front of each image to try and get a sense of what it is (decipher script 9). ]
This makes about as much sense to me as theoretical physics. And by that I mean, not a freaking lot. Is this a dude with a tool, or a giant dick?
[ She tilts her head sideways, as if that will help her see if it's a plow or a penis. ]
whoops, sorry.
I think ... it's a tool.
[Her head tips a little more.]
It seems a little awkwardly shaped to be a dick.
it's cool. granuaile wonders who that mysterious hottie was.
[ Granuaile is just honest. It's not like she's corrupting the youth of today or anything. ]
Okay, so it's a tool. What is it and what's he doing with it?
[ She moves down to the next picture in the row, hoping that will help. ]
The round thing could be a wheel. And it has a line through it. A cart? Or something else. Does the tool go with the wheel?
maybe she'll get to meet him one day
Anyway, Cora moves along the line with her, but suddenly, magically, something clicks and she starts to get what she's seeing here (decipher script nat 20).]
It's a warning.
[She takes a step forward to brush off some of the dust to reveal an ugly, beastly looking thing.]
It's a story, but it's also a warning.
that would be fun
