[His eyes flit to the mirror when they give a signal, and then he looks back to her again.]

Try to get them to wrap things up before dawn. They shouldn't be out there when the sun's up.

[prosecutorial]

[She stops and turns away from the door before raising an eyebrow.]

And why's that?

[ghostwhispers]

Bear's probably tired from being up all night. Might cause problems if someone tries to corner it when it's trying to sleep.

[prosecutorial]

Uh-huh.

[She's not sure what kind of sign that is, but she'll take it as a warning, and move to step out again.]

I'll be right back.

[And maybe go make some calls and see what they might actually be dealing with.]

[ghostwhispers]

[He shrugs and slouches back quietly. She seems like she's interested in genuinely helping, but she could be connected with the rest of them. What he needs is people he can't access right now.]

[prosecutorial]

[There are a few phone calls, a couple run arounds, and five coded messages from the Legends later, Laurel returns to the room, waves off the cops and once she's fairly certain they're alone, she settles into the seat across from him.]

Ever heard of a guy named John Constantine?

[ghostwhispers]

[He considers the name for a long time. Constantine is a deliberate sounding name. Could easily be an alias or a name that's fallen out of use. It could just be that she's started getting close to something she was never meant to mess with.]

Can't say I have. You got someone asking about me?

[prosecutorial]

I would need your name to know that.

[And he still hasn't given it. But that's not the point, and instead she leans in a little closer as though she's keeping the conversation between them.]

Anyway, Constantine is an expert in some more ... obscure animals, and he thinks that with what we were able to garner and what you told me, that there might still be a nest out there.

[ghostwhispers]

[He perks up more than he has earlier, attention gained. ]

Seems likely. Someone's been clearing out nests in the area. Herds are starting to migrate. Your friend knows these kinds of animals?

[prosecutorial]

He does. And he's not available to help right now, but I could go with you if you need an extra set of hands.

[Because Laurel is no slouch and she can handle herself.]

But in order to do that, I need to get you out of here. And they won't let me finalize your witness statement without a name.

[ghostwhispers]

Wasn't asking for your help with that.

[But his eyes give a deliberate slide toward the mirror.]

But if you want to have more of a talk, we can have one if you can get more privacy than this. [He figures they're probably being recorded no matter how illegal it is.]

[prosecutorial]

I wasn't really going to take no for an answer.

[Because vigilante, also Mom Friend, also stubborn.]

And as I said, you give me a name, and we can go for a milkshake.

[She doesn't even care if it's fake at this point. She's not asking him to tell the truth, she's just asking him to help her get around protocols.]

[ghostwhispers]

[It's going to have to be enough. But any name will create a record that he doesn't want to have. The only real option is to give out a name that'll be a deterrent to the people he's trying to shake.]

Elijah Mikaelson. Pretentious, I know. My parents didn't do me any favors there.

[prosecutorial]

Nice to meet you, Mr. Mikaelson.

[Yeah, she doesn't believe that for a second. But she will take that to the cops and process him out the rest of the way, until they're back on the street and she's steering him in the direction of the best milkshake in town.]

So. What can you tell me about these nests?

[ghostwhispers]

[ when they're out, he moves briskly, eyes snapping in response to each errant twig snap in the ambient surroundings. Getting released is the easy part. ]

I can tell you there's one in the basement of that police department.

[prosecutorial]

[She stops on her heels and turns to face him, eyes narrowing as she parses that statement. True, there's been a lot of things in the Star City Police Department basement over the years, but given what Constantine was talking about, this doesn't seem good for the hard working members of the SCPD.]

A nest of what exactly?

[ghostwhispers]

[ he raises his eyebrows ]

I hope it's not too late to ask if you believe in vampires.

[prosecutorial]

[Of the options that Constantine had given her, she was really, really hoping it wasn't going to be vampires. But unfortunately for Laurel, she never really gets what she wants.]

John Constantine and I have been through a lot together. If he tells me something's real, I generally believe him. Even if I really wish I didn't sometimes.

[And she makes a face.]

[ghostwhispers]

You don't have to get involved. In fact, you shouldn't be getting involved.

[He switches his bag from one shoulder to the other.]

But if you plan to keep up with this, you're going to need protection.

[prosecutorial]

This is happening in my city. I would probably wind up getting involved whether I crossed paths with you or not - but I'd much rather be prepared than go in blind.

[They haven't even gotten into her vigilante after hours extra curriculars.

She pauses long enough so that they can get into the diner and place their orders - milkshake and fries for Laurel, whatever Jeremy wants for Jeremy.]

Tell me what I need to know.

[ghostwhispers]

It's happening in most cities. Most non-cities, too. Don't take it personally.

[After ordering a hard drink on the rocks better suited for someone thirty years older than him, he'll pull a small box from his bag and flips it open, squinting at the contents.]

But if you want to know what's happening, you start by not trusting people the way you used to.

[He hands her a thin necklace.]

Put it on, leave it under your shirt. Don't let anyone take it off of you for any reason. Okay?

[prosecutorial]

[Laurel frowns, and takes it from him, putting it on as she was told, before glancing down at it.]

What is it?

[ghostwhispers]

Something to help keep vampires from controlling your mind, assuming it hasn't already happened. But it'll be a way to make sure you're clean going forward.

[And it's only then that he'll drop a real name.]

I'm Jeremy, by the way.

[prosecutorial]

[Mind control. Duly noted. She should ... probably get some of these for the members of Team Arrow.]

Laurel. Nice to meet you, Jeremy.

[And she means that.]

So what is it about this necklace that makes it mind control proof? Is it a spell, or something in the components?

[ghostwhispers]

I treated it with vervain. It's toxic to vampires, gets in the way of what they need to do to compel you. It's safer to get into the habit of eating or drinking it so it can't be taken off of you, but it's not like you can just grab a box of it out of a seven eleven on the way home tonight.
