In fact, she is far warmer than a human should be, though he might easily attribute that to his newly cold hands. "Now focus. Relax. As long as I've got your hand, nothing can hurt you."

"That's a mighty fine skill. Holding a guys hand and protecting him from anything that could attack." He gave a laugh, not totally convinced.

She gives him a bit of a look, before rolling her eyes. "I'm tougher than I look. Now are you going to do it or not?"

He nodded, closing his eyes a moment and really trying to focus. The frozen man started to thaw as he worked. When he was out of the ice, he flopped over, panting for breath.

Ava watches the entire time, before grinning and shaking his arm excitedly. "Ah! See!?! You did it!"

"I still don't really know what I did... but sure?"

She sighs, before turning to face him again. "You fell through a rift. A hole in time and space. Every time that happens, the rift changes you a little bit. In the case of you, it gave you ice powers."

"Is there a way I can go back through it and not have these, because I really, probably should not be given powers at all."

"Nope. Sorry. The Rift is kind of a one-way thing."

[rungreenierun]

"That's not possible. Physic wise, there is always a way to reverse the strand."

[thebeatofherheart]

"Rifts are holes in the universe. I don't think physics has a really good explanation for how they work yet." She's just sayin'. "That being said, the rifts do take people away too. But they don't take them home, they just take them ... somewhere else."

"... and if I couldn't be freaking out enough, that right there would shucken do it."

She sighs softly, before nodding and patting his shoulder gently. "Come on. I'll buy you an ice cream. You'll feel better - temporarily anyway."

He just blinked. "... are you serious?"

Ava stares back at him dubiously. "I never joke about ice cream."

Thomas just nodded. "Fine, fine ice cream it is." Take the guy who has the ability to freeze people for ice cream. No irony there at all.

Ava happens to be a big fan of irony. She grins as she takes his hand and leads him to the nearest ice cream store, big and cool and brightly colored, which will hopefully keep Thomas calm more than anything else. It's also not crowded, which is good.

"So. What kind of flavor do you want?"

There may actually be a million.

"Flavor..." And watch as he goes to look at the menu and his eyes just widen because that... that is a lot of choices. And he doesn't really even remember ice cream more than just what it is. "Um... whatever you're getting is fine."

Ava glances back to him curiously before giving her a small smile. "Let's start off simple. Vanilla with chocolate sauce." It's always a crowd favorite.

[rungreenierun]

"Good that. I can do that." He leaned in and looked at the canister of little multi-colored rice. "What are these?"

"Sprinkles." She steps up and orders the plain sundae for Thomas before ordering a much more complicated one for herself. "They're basically like if you want even more sugar on top of your sugar."

[rungreenierun]

"Can I have them?" Because they looked different and he wanted to see what they tasted like.

She smiles softly at that before nodding. "Sure. Sprinkles, coming up." And a few minutes later she pulls two dishes of ice cream off the counter, nodding towards one of the tables by the window. "C'mon. Let's eat."

He followed her, going to sit across from her when they got to the table. "So is this what typically happens here; you show up, freak out about powers, and then get ice cream because you didn't actually kill anyone?"

"Well, we all have our methods. I was actually born here - not here Chicago but here this universe - so I'm pretty much used to how things go around here. When newbies show up I try to help them adjust. But not all of them find out their rift changes that quickly. You must have been seriously freaking out."

Which may or may not be an understatement.
