Ava happens to be a big fan of irony. She grins as she takes his hand and leads him to the nearest ice cream store, big and cool and brightly colored, which will hopefully keep Thomas calm more than anything else. It's also not crowded, which is good.

"So. What kind of flavor do you want?"

There may actually be a million.

"Flavor..." And watch as he goes to look at the menu and his eyes just widen because that... that is a lot of choices. And he doesn't really even remember ice cream more than just what it is. "Um... whatever you're getting is fine."

Ava glances back to him curiously before giving her a small smile. "Let's start off simple. Vanilla with chocolate sauce." It's always a crowd favorite.

"Good that. I can do that." He leaned in and looked at the canister of little multi-colored rice. "What are these?"

"Sprinkles." She steps up and orders the plain sundae for Thomas before ordering a much more complicated one for herself. "They're basically like if you want even more sugar on top of your sugar."

"Can I have them?" Because they looked different and he wanted to see what they tasted like.

She smiles softly at that before nodding. "Sure. Sprinkles, coming up." And a few minutes later she pulls two dishes of ice cream off the counter, nodding towards one of the tables by the window. "C'mon. Let's eat."

He followed her, going to sit across from her when they got to the table. "So is this what typically happens here; you show up, freak out about powers, and then get ice cream because you didn't actually kill anyone?"

"Well, we all have our methods. I was actually born here - not here Chicago but here this universe - so I'm pretty much used to how things go around here. When newbies show up I try to help them adjust. But not all of them find out their rift changes that quickly. You must have been seriously freaking out."

Which may or may not be an understatement.

Thomas stabbed at his ice cream a moment. "You don't want to know how many times I've woken up in places I don't remember getting to. It's never a good thing for me."

[thebeatofherheart]

"I don't ever think that's a good thing for anyone." She drags her tongue against the bottom of her spoon as she watches him, before taking another scoop. "Look, I can't speak to your previous experiences, and I would be lying if I said it was safe here, but there're like ... wanderer support groups and stuff. And a ton of people like you."

"Any chance there's like, a place where new people can go to grab a shower and a bed?"

[thebeatofherheart]

"Yes! The Kashtta," she nods. "It's not far from here - I'll take you there after we're done."

[rungreenierun]

"Thanks." He swirled his melting ice cream with the sprinkles, watching it, not sure what else to say except for the hundreds of questions he had.

She watches him back for a moment, before resting her chin in her hand. "You can ask me whatever questions you want. I might not know the answers to them, but I'll try."
