[Going to her first prom was ... kind of awesome.

She got to stop a serial killer, she was a Final Girl, and she got to do a normal, high school thing, rather than having the experience fed into her brain. She never thought, listening in the abstract, that something like this would be fun, but when it happens to combine all her favorite things, it makes it a night to remember.

She glances over Sara's shoulder as they dance, before turning back to her.]

So what else to teens do during this whole prom thing?

[canaria]

Ohhh, get blackout drunk when they shouldn't because what are drinking laws, and go make out behind the building. [ A short pause. ] Which I absolutely, definitely, do not whatsoever, know from personal experience.

[ And that lie is less than convincing, even if any real effort had been put behind it. Sara Lance: Forever rolling a two at max on lies. ]

[stabcast]

Sure you don't.

[Yeah, she doesn't believe that for a second. But she's still riding the high of her win, so she's amused, to say the least.]

Does this face look like a face that gets in trouble a—— never mind, I can't even finish that bad lie with a straight face, my god, okay. Yeah, I might have. A few times. Most times. Every time.

[stabcast]

So you were a typical teenager and didn't just spring into the world a full-fledged ninja assassin.

[Her tone is teasing, but not judgy.]

I suck at this.

[Ava's slumped on the stairs next to the library, watching as Gideon pings through, trying to find Sara's location. They've been searching, but there's no sign of her yet, and Ava buries her face in her hands.]

I suck at trying to find my own girlfriend.

[Just like she sucks at everything is what that voice of self-doubt is telling her, but she's trying to ignore it.]

[annalist]

[nate gets up from the books he's been pouring through on the paranormal. he's been obsessively researching and looking too. they've already lost too many people -- they can't lose sara too.

but he also knows how sucky that hopeless feeling is which is why he sits down on the steps next to ava. he tries to channel ray, to be he voice of optimism she needs right now as he wraps his arm around her shoulder in a comforting fashion.]

We're going to find her. We've done more impossible things.

I know. I know.

[She knows Nate is right, and they will find Sara eventually, but at the same time:]

How did I miss her getting taken?

[annalist]

We all missed it. It wasn't just you.

**(**they had let their guards down, because for once it didn't seem like they had a new threat lining up -- that had been a mistake.**)**

[She knows. But she's the girlfriend. You would have thought that she would have been extra aware.

But her self-pity isn't helping anyone, so she takes a moment to resolve those feelings and shove them away into a tiny box, before getting to her feet.]

Where do you think we should look next? Is there some way that we could ... trace her, somehow? Does she have anything on her with a GPS?

She had her phone, right? Maybe Zari knows a way to track that.

(if there's anyone who knows the ins and outs of cell phone technology, it's zari 2.0. but who knows if that reaches....outer space.

he gets up, placing a hand on ava's shoulder)

We'll figure out something, I promise. We're not going to lose anyone else.

[stabcast]

I know. I know we won't.

[She glances over with a small smile, placing her hand over his.]

Thank you.

Of course. I know this won't be easy, but you don't have to do this alone. Me and the other legends are going to help you however we can. We aren't going to lose her.

[stabcast]

[She nods, feeling the sureness in that.]

We've faced down worse odds.

[Save the world a few times, and rescuing their kidnapped captain seems like an easy mission.]

[annalist]

We have. And she's not the first captain we've had to rescue. When I first joined...Rip had been brainwashed. It was an adventure, to say the least. But we got him back, and he went on and made the Time Bureau. We'll get her back too.

[stabcast]

[She winces.]

I read about that. Not exactly Rip's finest moment.

[Then again, towards the end, he didn't have many of those.]

Helena, right?

[Ava strides into the bridge, flashing Helena a warm smile and putting on her recruiter voice. Kate's recommendation carries some weight, and they do want to work on building their allyship with the team in Gotham. So taking on a Gotham vigilante makes sense. But that doesn't mean Ava isn't going to vet her just to be sure.]

I'm Ava. Welcome to the Waverider.

Guilty. [Helena admits with a disarming smile or at least she hopes is one. She's never been good in this type of situation. Mom just took her along for the ride and Dad got bullied into accepting it. She never had to win anyone ever. She can't even say her work speaks for itself since she's from a frankly pretty dark future. At least her cousin believes in her. Small favors, right? Maybe she can win this woman over too.]

Thanks for having me. [Too cheesy. Helena shrugs and owns up to it.] Sorry, this is weird for me. I usually do my own thing.

[She shakes her head.]
