In reality, Hana falls through Rafe's open window. She's not even graceful about it.
She can't go home because it's three in the morning, and even if she managed to shift and sneak in her window in marten form, her mother would catch her. Her mother would catch her and skin her alive, as marten. So she's just going to hide out at Miri's for the time being. She texted ahead. Her biffle knows she's coming, so she figures that the open window she sees on the Guevara's apartment is Miri's.
She sheds her super high heels, scales the fire escape with the kind of skill that comes with a daughter frequently hiding from her overprotective parents, and ever so gently nudges the window open so that she can slide through it ...
... loses her balance and falls to a heap on the ground. Whoops.
She gives a bit of a groan as the bed rustles next to her, and she holds up a hand before she looks up at the person in question. "Sorry, I'm sorry, I totally tripped over my - "
Then she looked up. She really should have looked in the window before she climbed in it.
" - oh my God, you're not Miri."

This has more to do with the fact Rafe's genuinely fearful of his mother whereas Miri doesn't take the threats seriously, and less to do with his being particularly organized. Regardless, he will be grateful for the cleanliness in just a few minutes. Something he won't be grateful for, however? He hasn't done his laundry in a long while, despite promising that he will and hiding most of his dirty clothes.
What this means is: he only had one set of boxers to wear as he went to bed, and those boxers? Happen to be boxers Alexander gave him once as a gag gift, because he thinks he's so hilarious.
They're these boxers, for those watching at home.
The noise makes him stir a little, having the heightened senses that he does as an angel, but it isn't until he hears the thud that he immediately jumps out of the bed, legs getting caught up in the sheets. Somehow he narrowly manages not to fall flat on his face, but as soon as he's straightened up he's met with a very pretty girl and not a robber. Unless she's a robber, too. It would make her the cutest robber he's ever seen.
So now he's just staring wide-eyed, shirtless, and wearing those godforsaken boxers he will burn immediately the next morning. (He will also be doing his laundry.)
"... Who are you?"
no subject
That's the actual thought that's running through her head at the moment. Actually, no, that's a lie, she's been thoroughly distracted by half-naked boy and abs and ... okay the boxers are a little ridiculous but she's trying not to let her focus fall there because staring there is kind of like a guy staring at a girl's boobs, and she's trying not to be a boob starer. It doesn't help that it's her current eye level, but she corrects that by shooting up to her feet.
It still continues to be not her most graceful performance with the addition of windmilling arms but she manages to stay on her feet, looking up at his face and hoping that she's at least in the right apartment.
"Who am I? I am Hana. Hana I am." God, she needs to stop talking. "I'm a friend of Miri's and she said that I could crash here to hide form her parents and I thought this was her window andI'mreallyreallysorrypleasedon'tfreakout."
no subject
The problem is, as alert as he feels, his brain is still catching up to him. By the time Hana starts explaining herself, he blinks a bit with an incredibly dumbfounded expression on his face. Girl??? In my room??? Pretty hair??? It isn't until she starts to quietly freak out that he jumps into action. Stop staring, Rafe. It's not polite.
"Hey, no. It's okay. I'm not going to say anything, we just need to be quiet or my mom's going to hear. Not that we're doing anything. I didn't mean to - "
Annnnd that's about as much as he gets out. His arm stretches out toward her in an attempt to reassure her, and as he's taking a step forward, he forgets the sheets are still tangled up around his legs. So he does, in fact, end up faceplanting on the floor at her feet, exactly as he'd been fearing previously. She is now getting an eyeful of his tush. It's a really nice tush.
What was left of Rafe's dignity has officially left the building.
no subject
Dignity is very important.
Wow, it really is a very nice tush.
"Oh my God, are you okay? Did you break anything? I mean, not literally, because you'd have to fall a lot harder than that to actually break bone but let's just go with the sentiment here."
no subject
He clears his throat, scrambling up to his feet as smoothly as he possibly can. (Spoiler: it's not actually that smooth).
"Hana. Hana, you are." He gently places both hands on her arms, if only to get her to focus on him. He even manages to smile a little, aware of how ridiculous he must look. Rafe's a lot of things, but he's also good at not taking himself too seriously, despite the warm flush that comes to his cheeks. "I'm okay. Are you? What are you doing here so late looking for my sister?"
He'll put a shirt on. Y'know, eventually. If he can find a clean one.
no subject
The stammering, the falling, the tush. It all played itself out from there. She gives a bit of a shrug as she stops spewing her endless stream of words before giving him an awkward smile.
"Which I should probably go to. Miri's room, I mean."
no subject
Rafe blurts that out before he realizes that he doesn't actually have anything smart to say. He just doesn't necessarily want her to leave so quickly. This is a feat, really, if you keep in mind he's wearing Mario Brothers boxers and absolutely nothing else, and he should want to maintain at least a shred of dignity. But the reaction is a knee-jerking reaction and he winces as soon as he's spoken.
"I - you have to walk past my mom's room to get to Miri's and she's a really light sleeper." That's not a lie. Technically. "But I can help you sneak into it. Miri's room, I mean. Not my mom's. That would be ... bad. And you should also have water. I can get you water, too."
He's just trying to spare her from a hangover. It's the decent thing to do. It's not at all because she's super cute.
It is totally because she is super cute.no subject
Yes. Water is good. Water will probably help her sober up a bit, not that she isn't mostly sober already. She couldn't have been drunk and scaled that fire escape, but she's tipsy enough that water is good and it means she gets to spend more time with Rafe then that's a bonus.
"Where to?"
no subject
It's whispered to her as he soundlessly leads her down the stairs. Rafe's a pro at this. Mainly because one of his two best friends is Alexander, and he's often had to sneak back in the house at ungodly hours of the morning while making sure no one is aware of it. Usually with Alexander and/or Leo in toe.
"Now that I'm awake, I'm kind of hungry anyway." His smile is sheepish as he turns to look back at her. "Does your head hurt or anything?"
no subject
Possibly when she's a little more sober.
For right now though, she's just going to sit at one of the chairs near the kitchen table, fold her arms on the table in front of her, and lean forward to rest her chin on the cross of her hands. "'m okay. Just need some water."

It's a technique that Hana perfected ages ago, not because she wanted to get particularly wasted, but mostly because she wanted to dance. Then she realized that dancing could be a lot more fun if you were a liiiiiittle buzzed (but not too much). All the same, she's much more interested in the thump-thump-thump of the bass, and the warm press of the people around her, and it isn't until the third (or is it fourth?) song hits her that she realizes she lost Miri.
Damnit.
She extracts herself from the guy who's currently trying to grind up against her - no thank you, sir - foisting him off on the blond who was next to her before weaving through the crowd to one of the rare empty pockets on the dance floor. She steps back, pushing up on her toes to try and see over the crowds, before fishing her phone out of her bra and sending off a quick text.
Where are you?
no subject
This is, most likely, not at all surprising.
In Mireya Guevara's defense, she feels personally victimized by the song choice from only moments ago, to the point where she had to say something. It is her duty as a partygoer to speak on the behalf of the downtrodden. The DJ apparently has a predilection toward that artist, as he's playing another one of their songs and Miri is not here for that, okay. She came here to have a good time and now she's feeling attacked.
And so, if Hana is to go to the platform where the DJ looks mildly concerned, she will find that Mireya is explaining in great detail what she would do to said artist if they were standing right before her.
It involves using a melon ball scoop to yank out their eyeballs and feed them to vicious hyenas.
She's a very charming young woman.
no subject
All the same, she steels herself for the worst and makes her way through the crowd. She loves her best friend. She really does. She doesn't exactly know how Miri came to be her best friend, but she adores her. However, there are moments where she wonders if she should really be let out in public.
Like when she's threatening famous people with feeding their eyeballs to hyenas.
She flashes the DJ a bright smile as she makes her way up and puts her hands on Miri's shoulders gently. "Oh-kay, I think you need some air."

Maroon 5.
"Do I look like I go to bed every night kissing an Adam Levine poster?" Miri asks, the scowl firmly planted on her face. There is, however, only one person that is able to put their hands on Miri's shoulders and steer her away successfully, and that person is Hana. She all but hisses at the DJ as she is led away.
"Can you believe the nerve of that guy?"
Yes, Miri. The nerve of him. As though you haven't totally gotten Payphone stuck in your head sometimes.
no subject
Hana nods in commiseration as though she knows exactly what Miri is talking about. Spoiler: she does not. It's not like you can hear anything enough to discern offensive lyrics in there anyway. Besides, Maroon 5 is usually a pretty safe point.
"Adam Levine and all those tattoos. Who would ever find that attractive."
That's sarcasm. She would climb Adam Levine like a tree.

Hana's voice comes over the crowds of people, the special kind of enthusiasm she reserves for when she's about to get him to do something he will probably regret doing. In fact, she's well aware of the fact that she does it, so when she reaches him, it's with the kind of placating smile that usually means she's about to ask a favor. But once she's close enough she's throwing her arms around his shoulders and tugging him towards one of the doors that leads to the outside of Looney.
Never mind that it's between periods.
In the middle of the day.
When they're supposed to be in physics.
"C'mon. Let's go for a walk." Sorry, kiddo, you don't get a choice.
no subject
He knows what that voice means with that enthusiasm, which is why he is looking around all alert like he's preparing for something. There is a thing that she is going to try to make him do!!
He can sense it. Leo shakes his head over and over as she throws her arms around his shoulders and starts to tug him, because no gurl. NO GURL. Even as he shakes his head, he is walking with her. The thing is he could resist. He could run. He could fight it, but he walks along like he knows there is no choice involved.
"...what's going on? What kind of walk? Cause mob bosses say, Lets take a walk before y'know they shoot you in the head." Yes, he just did a Marlon Brando voice. He narrows his gaze pointedly. "Why do you have that smile on your face, Hana? That smile means you want me to do something for you, something I am not going to like doing, which is why you're smiling at me like, C'mon, Leo, I'm your pal and you should totally do this thing for your pal. I see it in your face."
no subject
Bless his antsy, neurotic little heart.
She keeps the smile on her face as they keep walking, heading towards the football field. Once they're far enough away from the school, she slips her arm in his so it looks more like they're two students out for a stroll than Leo being forcibly kidnapped by a girl who usually turns into a Korean weasel. She's trying to protect his reputation here.
"I'm not going to shoot you in the head." Just putting that out there. "If I shoot you in the head, who's going to help me with the physics homework."
And by help, that occasionally means "steals answers from" but personally Hana thinks that's just semantics.
no subject
If she needed him, he would be there. He does have such the antsy, neurotic heart though.
Leo looks sideways at her with a tiny smirk when she just idly slips her arm in his and has that smile on her face like nothing at all is going on.
"By help you, you mean whose answers are you going to steal, right? I'm not the only one who has an A in physics y'know, but it is good to know that is the one thing you find me useful for. Not that I'm advocating you shooting me."
He lets out a soft sound.
"...how do I work myself into these conversations?"
no subject
She takes a beat as they reach bleachers, dragging him towards the bench and sitting down next to him.
"And I'm not here for homework. I'm here because I wanted to ask you about something."
Something that happens to be a little under six feet tall, has a beautifully crooked smile and also happens to be the brother of her best friend. Miri will probably kill her for even considering this.
One hurdle at a time.
no subject
It's a problem. He sinks down next to her once they have reached the bench, and then he looks sideways at her once they do sit and she actually tells him why they're taking this 'walk' to start with.
"...wait, really? That's all?"
Leo turns to look at her, adjusting his glasses with a tiny curious expression.
"Why did you have to take me out of the school to ask me?"
no subject
Which ... may indicate what she's actually here to talk to you about. She's here to talk to you about your best friend. Because as your best friend you clearly know everything about him and can tell her whether he's single or mentioned her, and if he's mentioned her, it's as that crazy girl who fell through his bedroom window or not.
no subject
The funny thing is that though Leo would never admit it, he has a huge crush on her best friend who also happens to be Rafe's sister... and. Ahem. He knows Rafe would take a huge issue with all of that. Maybe. Maybe he would take more of an issue with the fact Leo hasn't said anything after all this time...
"Without him around."
There's a pause (as his aok brain works it out quickly) and then Leo smiles and nudges her. "You li-i-i-ike him, don't you?"
no subject
She's not sure how much of that is an exaggeration.
She does, however, blush a lot when Leo puts two and two together. She figured that he would, but she had hoped he wouldn't put it like that. "Okay, I'm a little obvious, but considering the way we actually met, I kind of think that I might have made a really bad first impression."
no subject
Apparently he does wish to die though because it is exactly who he silently crushes on until the end of days.
Leo lifts his eyebrows as he looks at her, and he does know of Rafe talking about how a really hot girl tumbled in through his window looking for his sister. He is so clearly gonna keep that information to himself for a bit though especially while he determines if she is the same girl Rafe spoke about, ahem. "...what kind of impression did you make?"
no subject
Otherwise, she wouldn't be here. There's a reason she's not taking this to Alexander.
She looks awkward for a moment, her nose wrinkling into the most awkward face she has, while she tries to determine how best to start. There really is no good way to start.
"I meant to sneak into Miri's window but I snuck into his instead? And I wasn't exactly ... graceful about it?"
no subject
(Her most awkward face is also completely adorable). He lifts his eyebrows as he looks at her, and a tiny smile tugs on his face even as he inwardly is like /FLAILS Miri.
"Oh, so you're the one who did that? I didn't realize I actually knew he was talking about. Yeah, he might have mentioned you." They kind of tell each other everything, and it's big news when a hot girl falls in through your window after all... so yes. Leo knows the truth. "I don't think he really cares about how graceful you are or you're not by the way."
But he definitely said she was really hot.
no subject
"Not cares as in it wasn't that big a deal?" She tips her head towards the side. "Or don't really think he cares as in he finds it quirky and adorable?"
She's going for quirky. Just so you know.

She just wants to go find her boyfriend. Going home is something she can deal with later.
She scrambles up the fire escape the way she usually does and instead of rapping on Miri's window she knocks on Rafe's instead.
Hi, soon-to-be-boyfriend. Please let her in.]
no subject
he's expecting leo, and he is very, very glad he is wrong. ... and also glad he's not wearing inappropriate boxers. ]
the window is opened quickly. ] Hi. [ look at this dumb boyish smile, hana. just look at it. ]
no subject
[Her smile is eager in return and before she can remember the fact that before she was on the boat she and Rafe were still trying to figure themselves out, that she's never even kissed him before, she's leaning in to kiss him softly, more out of habit than anything else.]
no subject
helplessly, he melts into the kiss, eyes finally closing. ]

She always wanted to do that anyway. Even before she went to the boat.
Impulse isn't really a bad thing.
She holds the kiss for another moment longer, before pulling back with a small smile.]
I just wanted to do that.
no subject
there's a certainty, deep in his bones, that whatever the timeline, they're meant to be together. and it feels so natural to kiss her, however many times he has done so, that it's easy to sink into it for as long as she allows it to continue.
when she pulls back, he looks enraptured by her. ]
You should always feel free to do that.

Good. I will.
