[ a cloud of dust forms around one of them -- no, it escapes from him as his body disintegrates around the large ex-table leg that was just previously protruding from his chest. as it settles, gunn straightens up with a smirk, looking around at the others. ]

Aww you guys never wait up for me. I ain't as young as I used to be, but you know I still got it! [ then he spots caroline, an obviously new kind of creature, and his ego falters. gunn fights the urge to step back and away, instead choosing to scowl and nod toward her. vampire crosses his mind, but-- well, she's obviously not what he's used to. and she clearly doesn't like LA's standard fare of vamp. point in her favor, there. ] And you made a new friend without me? C'mon, guys! I thought we were besties...

[ he punctuates that by attacking the second closest vampire, the one-armed wonder who was trying to creep away. it's short work, so that he can try and figure out what to do with the newbie. ]

[While she's not strong enough to rip a vampire's head off, she still gives the third vampire's neck a quick snap, letting the body drop to the ground with an exasperated sigh.

This guy was clearly a hunter. She just hoped that table leg wasn't heading for her next.

Her fangs recede, her eyes turn back to their normal blue, and she turns back to face him with a bit of a huff.]

I had it.

[there's a beat.]

But thank you.

Couldn't let you have all the fun.

[ couldn't let you walk away without figuring out what the hell you are, is more like it. gunn steps closer, into the light of the alley -- he sheaths the stake, only to produce the broadsword from his back. once in range, he swings it down into the snapped neck of caroline's kill. ]

Best to make sure it comes all the way off.

[Her eyebrows raise a bit at that, before she gets a little defensive.]

Well sorry. I don't exactly make murder a hobby on a regular basis.

Yeah, that doesn't really fly with me. We don't just let cougars roam the city looking for lunch, same goes for vamps.

[ the years (and surviving hell on LA) have taught gunn to keep an open mind and to assess before attacking. snark doesn't always equate danger, but blondie sure isn't helping her case. ]

I don't really call it murder so much as protection.

[Because vampires eating other vampires is super gross.]

[ it's a wonder they're both still talking, at this rate. ]

Have you ever seen one of them hunt? They're pretty far from mindless -- I mean, I'm a pretty solid fighter but I'm not trying to get lost in the mountains with a hungry cougar.
