Finally, the waiter comes to serve their wine and Rebekah places their orders.

Once that's done, he takes a long sip of his wine, letting his eyes scan the room. He seems lost in thought for a moment, almost as though his attention is focused elsewhere, and then he smiles.

"Eavesdropping is so much easier like this."

She grins a little at that, taking a sip of her own wine now.

"Isn't it? Who needs your fancy fbi devices when you have you have supernatural hearing..."

"Well, occasionally they're needed for evidence in a court of law." That's the lame part - they can't just rely on their hearing for that. "But it could come in very handy in my other line of work."

"Yes, I had a feeling you might find some uses for your new abilities." Hearing only one of many that could make the whole thieving business much easier.

He grins a bit at that, before turning and glancing around the room. "I'm surprised more vampires aren't conmen. They'd make a mint."

"Right? It's a lost opportunity, to be certain." She smirks a little. "But I suppose that works in your favor, if more did maybe the government would of caught onto to the existence of us more."

"That's true," he says with a nod. "It'd be hard to cover it up when we started brainwashing their agents. Vervain would be everywhere."

"Exactly. And then we'd have a lot else to worry about." Better the masses never figure it out.

Yes. Much better. Though if Neal were working a con, he probably wouldn't use compulsion. It would take all the fun out of making people do what he wants. "Like the rest of our day-to-day life?"

"Exactly. The less people know, the better." And yes, there's something to be said about the fun of getting people to do what you want without supernatural help.

As the waiters circled in and out, bringing them drinks and Neal reaches for his wine, taking a long sip as he does. "I could do without the heartbeats in my ears, though."

"That can be a little distracting, though you do learn how to tune it out."

At some point, you kind of have to to stay sane.

He nods slowly. He's getting better at filtering what he wants to hear from what he doesn't need to hear, but it's something that's going to take practice. He exhales slowly as he takes another sip.

"I'm just ... frustrated with the learning curve."

"Understandably. It would be strange if you weren't, honestly."

People always struggle at first, transition into the life of a vampire isn't easy.

"It's strange for me. I'm not used to having a learning curve." And he'd be lying if he didn't say the lack of sure control isn't unnerving. He's used to having it, not it being taken from him.

"I imagine it has to be an adjustment." And not a pleasant one at that.

He nods slowly. "But I'm getting there, slowly but surely." He looks up with a smile, meeting her eyes for a moment. "Before you know it, it'll be like I've been doing it for years."

"I don't doubt that. You seem like a quick learner." She smirks a little, meeting his eyes.

"And you couldn't ask for a better teacher."

"That is very true," he says as he leans in to meet her more. "The learning experience has been wonderful so far."

"I'm glad." She means it sincerely. "I've been trying to make it as easy as possible for you."

It's the least she could do, he wouldn't even be like this if it weren't for her.

"And I appreciate that." He means that too. He doesn't know what he would do if he had to do this on his own. Especially when it came to controlling his impulses. "I wouldn't be able to do this without you."

"You wouldn't be doing it without me at all," She says softly -- because that much is true -- if it weren't for her he wouldn't be a vampire at all.

"True. But I think the point still stands." Even if he had been turned by someone else, he'd want her to be his teacher - for better or for worse. He wouldn't have made it this far without her.

"It does." And no matter who turned him, she'd still want to teach him.
