[The cross-hook hits hard (5), and she stumbles back a bit, one hand coming up to brush at the corner of the mouth. She's starting to get mad, but she knows that Daredevil doesn't deserve her ire here. She just needs to get him to take her to Kilgrave.

She lashes out again, swinging close for what's hopefully a hard hit (11) and another one that swings wide that likely won't hit (2).]

[the first swing does hit home and just as hard as she hoped (6). he half-curls in on himself as a result, as a reflex that becomes a reaction, a duck, as she takes another swing at him, letting it pass overhead harmlessly (11). when he rights himself fully, he bares his teeth and then drops fluidly into a crouch, kicking out one foot, hoping to take her feet out from under her (14). if she's on her back, it'll make it that much harder for him to punch him, he figures]

[That would be the theory, yes. She goes down hard, landing on her back with a groan as she tries to catch the wind that seems to have been ripped from her (4). It takes her a moment to try and regain herself, and while she can't punch him, she will take advantage of her position and pump her legs up until his stomach so that she can shove him back and get to her feet (13).]

[he figures she's not just going to sit there while he rains a flurry of kicks down on him, and so, unfortunately for Jessica, he knows the kick is coming. he catches her feet (18) and shoves them aside, then takes a step to one side, practically fluid, to aim a kick of his own at her ribs (17)]

[She uses that momentum to try and roll away but she doesn't get far enough to miss the first kick (15), catching her just under her ribs and giving her enough force to get the rest of the way, even if it hurts. She grits her teeth as she starts to push up onto her feet again and makes a fist again.]

You really sure about this? Cuz I can do this all day.

So could I. [even if he doesn't want to] You could always do us both a favor and stand down. [he's not sure that would make any of this any better, honestly, but at least he could stop beating the shit out of her if she surrendered]

Yeah. I'm gonna go with no. If I'm going up against Kilgrave, I'm going to do it on my terms, not his.

[She pauses for a moment, before bringing her fists back up again.

[You want me to go quietly, you're gonna have to shut me up.

You asked for it. [why are you making him do this, Jessica?]

[not that he can really ask that, and so, instead, he just hesitates for an instant before coming at her again. what looks like a direct charge turns out to be a feint, however, as he veers off before he gets close, using his momentum to vault up onto one of the desks nearby. he jumps off of it, when he's reached the top, throwing himself and a punch at her, hoping that extra force and the fact that she might not be expecting him to come in from the side will help (14).]

[Nope, she's paying attention now and she side steps the blow easily (16), using her momentum to try and bring a blow down against his back but she likely misses wildly (3).]

[she does, in fact, as he keeps going a couple of steps once he comes down to get out of her range (17). he turns back to face her, following that, but rather than come at her again, he waits, albeit restlessly, for her to come at him, hoping to use momentum against her when she does]

[She figures that it would come to this and Kilgrave is definitely her end goal so he's going to have to take her in eventually.

But for now, she's going to charge at him wildly, and maybe she can make it seem plausible enough for him to take her down (8).]

[he can, for lack of better wording, see her coming a mile away, and so he steps out of her path (12). he's quick to rock back, however, to bring his elbow down, hoping to catch her between the shoulders and force her down (15). if and when he does, he's probably going to start punching her until she stops moving]

[sorry, Jessica]

[She takes the hits and drops to the ground, her arms coming up to protect her face, taking each of the hits until she finally stills, going limp and letting him take her to Kilgrave.]

[after a handful of extra hits, just for good measure, Matt rolls off of her and gets to his feet. he hesitates a moment, looking down at her, and then, with a shuddering breath out, he moves to gather his batons before coming back, bending to grab one of her arms, hauling her up onto his shoulders. (it helps that she's tiny.) and that done, yes, he's going to take her to Kilgrave, as ordered]

[later, when this is over and assuming she survives and Kilgrave doesn't tell him to go eat a bullet, he'll have to find her again, apologize. he never wanted this]

[It's okay, Matt. She's got this covered. She's the appropriate amount of sack of potatoes over his shoulder, not trying to make things easy for him, but not trying to make them harder either. She's hoping that this is the extent of the orders and she can tell him to run and get out of range before Kilgrave can issue another order.]

[and so, Matt hauls her off to Kilgrave, who, surprise muse with no journal tiems, gets to his feet when Matt enters] You did it. [a beat] You actually did it. Oh, this is brilliant. I'll be honest, I was half-hoping she'd do us all a favor and put you out of your misery, but this is so much better. Well done!

[Matt says nothing, and some of Kilgrave's glee fades. he makes an impatient gesture at Matt] What are you waiting for, then? Set her down. [and so Matt moves to deposit her somewhere nearby]

[And Jessica will let him carry her around, and once he sets her down, her eyes will open with a sudden intensity, staring him down as she leans in and hopes that there are no other orders waiting in the wings for him to be forced to obey.]

Run.

[The word is a whisper, barely loud enough for Matt to hear, let alone Kilgrave and she hopes that it's enough to get him moving. She can handle Kilgrave from here.]

What about you?

[Matt manages to ask that without moving his mouth and, if Kilgrave's heartbeat is any indication, without him overhearing them. he has to ask. while he'd like to go, all of this way above his pay grade, realized too late, he brought Jessica here. he did this, even if it wasn't his choice. he won't leave her alone, if it means she's going to die because of him. he'd rather die, himself]

[better make your answer quick, Jessica. here comes the man of the hour]

I'm immune.

[Or at least she hopes she still is. Inoculated against his power by being his favorite play thing.]

You're not.

[So go, Matt, get out of his range fast before he finds a way to snake you back in again.]

[Matt hesitates for a moment, a deep frown settling into the corners of his mouth, and then, against his better judgement, makes a break for it. Kilgrave seems surprised by this and calls after him, but it's a second too late -- Matt's gone]

Well, that's annoying. [a beat] Guess it's just the two of us, then. [does he know Jessica's awake? is he just monologuing to himself? it's hard to tell]

Guess it is.

[But that doesn't last long. Jessica is quick to take the advantage and feel the tension of Kilgrave's neck snapping in her hands and it isn't long before the police are arresting her and she is lead off to jail.

She's going to need a really good lawyer, but she isn't sure if Hogarth is ready to take that on yet.]

[interestingly, it doesn't take too long for a really good lawyer to just show up on his own -- or so the guard that comes to get Jessica tells her. Matt's sitting in a room at the jail, back in civilian clothes, waiting for her, a stack of papers all printed in Braille spread out in front of him, his fingers tracing the lines. he pauses, however, when the door opens, raising his head, giving the impression that he's looking at her as she's pushed into the room, and then hurriedly gathers the papers back into one neat stack so he can push the aside, give her his full attention]

Miss Jones. [so they meet again] I heard you had a bad night.

[Her eyebrows go up a bit at that, glancing over her shoulder to make sure the cops aren't around or listening in, before she moves to sit across from him.]

You aren't my attorney. At least, not the one I called, anyway.

I can go, if you'd rather wait for Miss Hogarth.

[and yet he makes no motion to stand up]

I'd be waiting for Hogarth either way.

[She sits across from him and studies him for a moment, eyes sharp.]

Kinda curious how you knew I was here, though.
