Are you sure there was a breach?

[Barry and Cisco have been wandering the woods for hours, trying to find some sign of life or danger from where the alleged breach had happened, but so far they've come up with nothing. Cisco looks annoyed that he's being doubted, again.

"I'm sure, Barry. It's not the kind of thing that I just make up to wind up in the woods in the middle of the night on a whim."]

Fair enough.

[The taller man takes a moment to scan the treeline, before turning to Cisco with a sigh.]

You take left, I take right? See what we find?

["Sounds good. Shout if you need help."

Barry nods, before turning to slowly make his way through the woods. True, he could probably go through this really, really quickly, but he's not suited up and he's not look to out himself. At least not quite yet.

Instead, he shouts into the trees like a dumbass.]

Hello? Anybody out here?

[ it's the woods. she winds up in thick woods, the canopy blocking out even the low light of the moon, unable to see more than a foot in front of her face. it's not exactly a reassuring backdrop to the destination... especially considering daisy didn't board the multiverse plane willingly.

she'd been testing one of the monolith pieces, and wound up cracking open a rift in the space-time continuum — or whatever garbage scifi phrase fitz would eventually describe her sudden disappearance with. right now, all she knew was that she was in some forest, and that clicking her heels together three times was not getting her home.

instead, it just seemed to get somebody's attention. great. so much for figuring a way out of this. ]

Do me a favor and don't shoot me?

[ ha. ha. very funny. she's so funny. but seriously, don't shoot her. ]

[Barry immediately holds up his hands as he tries to move into her line of sight, so that she can he is just some scrawny friendly dude looking to help, not some dangerous black ops guy or ... you know, Oliver.]

Not even armed. My name's Barry Allen, I'm with the CCPD. I'm just here to help.

[ it's a good thing he's not oliver. she'd probably feel obligated to punch oliver just from the stupid low gruff sound of his voice — because oliver queen sounds a lot like grant ward, so therefore: he must be hydra. ]

You're with the... what now?

[ ccpd sounds like a bad street drug. it doesn't even cross her mind that there might be a police department that didn't just call themselves 'the cops', but daisy's also not super well-versed in real life police work either. what would she know? ]

Where am I?

[ she is probably going to need to know that to figure out how to quake her way back home. if that's even possible. it has to be. ]

... Central City Police Department?

[Which answers both questions, one way or another. He makes his way closer, before slowly lowering his hands.]

It's in Missouri?

[Because that's where I headcanon it is.]

You don't look like a cop.

[ he also doesn't really have the superhero build, but that's neither here nor there. she eyes him for a moment, considers the seeming lack of gun, and decides not to quake him into the trees. for now. ]

Do you guys have a weird rock that moves around a bunch? Turns itself into liquid occasionally? Swallows people?

[ please say you have a monolith just stuck in a back room. ]

Technically I'm a forensic scientist.

[So that answers her first comment. The questions take him a little longer though, because that's definitely ... not something he's ever heard of. So in the end, he just has to be honest with her.]

No?

[He doesn't sound like he disbelieves her, but more that he's trying to parse what they might have that will provide the same ability.]

Is that what happened to you? You got swallowed by a weird rock?

[ so he's a nerd. it's not necessarily the worst possible outcome — hell, fitzsimmons were both nerds, and they were basically geniuses — but it's not entirely reassuring, either. she doesn't expect a forensic scientist to have the key to how she got shunted from one state to another.

wait until she finds out she got bounced to a different universe altogether. ]

No. I mean, it was with the weird rock, but it didn't swallow me. [ then, offhandedly: ] It swallowed a friend of mine one time and sent her to a planet out in deep space once, though.

[ not helpful. ]

Look, is there, like, a Starbucks around here or somewhere where I can get some wifi service? My phone is not connecting to anything.

[ i've now decided that starbucks doesn't exist on barry's earth because it's been replaced by jitters. thank you plot devices. ]

... What's a ...

[Oh. Oh. Okay. Now he's starting to get the picture here. He's about to rephrase that answer as Cisco rounds the corner and injects himself in the conversation.

"Dude, I'm not seeing any sign of a breach anywhere. I think this time the satellites might be a little ..." He stops when he sees Daisy, eyes widening. " ... off. But I see you might have."

Barry swallows before making a face.]

Yeah, I was getting to that.

A breach?

[ look, she appreciates cisco's whole nerd-chic vibe — really, she's digging his t-shirt, it's great — but she's not super into this whole mystery of the universe thing. ]

Can someone please fill me in on whatever the hell is going on here?

Yeah. You're ... on another Earth. A breach is a hole between worlds, and you fell through it and wound up here, on this one.

[Which is a lot, so he's going to give her a second to process before he continues.]

Look, this is my friend Cisco, and we're pretty much the local efforts. If you give us a minute, we can try and get you home.

Well, at least it's not an alien planet. Could be worse, I guess.

[ oh, just a minute? she believes that about as much as she had believed he was a cop, but okay. why not let him do his thing.

she holds up her hands, mock surrender. ]

Go for it. ET Phone Home or whatever you've gotta do. I'm gonna... you know, be over here, playing on my phone.

[ at least candy crush still works, right? ]

[Maybe? The narration doesn't know if it's a web-fed game, so her phone might be pretty useless until they find some wi-fi to hook her up on. While she's looking down, however, Barry and Cisco have a silent conversation full of cartoon like facial expressions, and then turn back to face her again.]

Uh, so. This will probably work better if we head back to our lab. Would you mind coming with us?

Would I mind? [ she shoots him a look. ] I don't think you're really giving me a whole lot of choice here in the matter, dude.

[ but sure, fine. lead her in the direction, ye olde super shepherd, and she shall follow. ]

Is it actually your lab, or is that like, 'my name is on the door but it's owned by some shady corporation I'm not talking about' code?

No, actually it was owned by someone shady and we ... inherited it?

[Kind of? How do you explain a problem like Eobard Thawne. Barry doesn't know, so he's just going to breeze right past it and since they didn't take a car here from Star Labs, he's going to just ... glance awkwardly at Cisco, and the other man shrugs.

"Well, here we go."

And he'll just ... open a breach to the lab in the middle of the woods nearby.]

[ oh.

well, that's one way to show off. it's not quite a monolith ride to an alternate dimension, but since the men seem to jump right through without any limbs or major organs disappearing, daisy figures it can't be all bad.

might as well, right? ]

Are you the unfortunate heir to a supervillain dynasty?

[ how else do you explain "inherited" in an uncomfortable question tone? ]

["Nope. Just unfortunate victims of a mad science experiment."

And Barry puts on his Barry face, before reaching for her hand as they head towards the breach.]

We promise, you'll be okay. We just ... didn't bring a car.
