Freya arrives in Chicago on the wings of her awakening, still in her nightgown and sweater. For a moment she thinks that Dahlia may have something to do with this, but all it takes is one very helpful individual to tell her that no, she's fallen into another world and her entire outlook changes.

She practically weeps for joy.

The poor person who is helping her misconstrues her tears for grief, and she lets him think that, because trying to explain her situation is probably infinitely more complicated. Right now, she simply wants to bask in the fact that she doesn't have to explain. She doesn't have to justify anything. She's free.

Her age still wears on her, the centuries she's seen and the life that she's led but knowing that she's in a place where Dahlia can no longer find her. The colors seem to brighten and it's like a weight has been lifted and she wants to explore. She's making her way through the park, still in the clothes she arrived in, when she spots a deer standing in the middle of the park on shaky legs, struggling his way out from under what looks like a leather jacket.

"You poor thing," she says softly as she makes her way closer to try and help him out of it. "How did you get stuck in this?"

The narration is a terrible person, Freya. That's how.

Rebekah is walking through the city when she spots a very familiar little fawn. That fawn happens to be her boyfriend. She happens to think he's very cute like this but he always bleats at her when she says that.

Either way she makes her way over to him and the girl trying to help him, no idea who she is.

"You'll have to excuse Stefan, he's more polite when he isn't deershaped, I find."

She bends down to grab his jacket, and more importantly his daylight ring. Don't want to lose that.

When she looks up and sees Rebekah, in her own body, it catches her by surprise. Not that she doesn't immensely prefer having her sister see her through her own eyes, how they should have met, but it's still not what she was expecting. Then again, there's not much she can really say to her that wouldn't make her seem like she's crazy.

(They would have been bookend sisters if it wasn't for Dahlia. Freya would have braided her hair and told her stories and they would have learned their craft together, rather than apart. It's another thing that Dahlia has robbed her of, being an older sister, having a true sister, but maybe it's another opportunity that she can recover here.)

She glances up at her curiously, before back down to the deer again, who's going to stumble over and slump slightly against Rebekah's legs, a graceless thank you for making sure he didn't lose his ring.

"He's not normally a deer?"

Rebekah would have trouble believing Dahlia, if her sister told her who she was. The problem is she's very behind on the times here -- the most she's ever known about her sister is that she died before even Nik was born. No one ever really talked about her much when they were children, not to her. She always imagined it would of been nice to have a sister -- though. Someone to bond with among that gaggle of brothers. Girls who could stick together and watch over one another.

But certain things were not meant to be.

At the question, however, she simply nods her head. "He isn't. You must be new here -- anyone who falls through the rifts gets changed by them, and one of the favorite changes is making people into shapeshifters. Which is why my boyfriend is an adorable deer right now."

And why she sometimes turns into a tiny white kitten.

She nods with a small smile, before brushing another hand over the top of Stefan's head. Poor Stefan, forced to stumble around on legs that aren't his own. "I am new," she admits with a nod. "I've only been here a few hours, but I've already found it to be the most ... remarkable place."

She hasn't figured out how the rift has changed her yet, however. She won't for a year, when she knows the trigger point of Dahlia's spell will be approaching find that she won't have to sleep for another century and watch the world slip away from her. There are consequences to that, however, as she will be mortal again, vulnerable, but even then, for her that will be something to celebrate.

"Will he change back? Into your boyfriend again?"

A small, almost fond smile tugs at her lips. "It certainly has it's quirks."

If she knew of Freya's fate she would relate to the freedom she might feel. Chicago has it's quirks, but it's given Rebekah a freedom she's never had. After the human version of Klaus disappeared no other forms appeared. And while she misses her brothers she can just live her life. It's what she's always wanted.

"He will, once he calms down. This usually happens when he loses his temper. Or when the rifts want to mess with him -- they like doing that."

Not that she can talk. She is the girl who turned into a kitten in the middle of a ball because of a kitten.

"Turning someone into a deer as an anger management tactic." She can't help but smirk. "Very clever. I am both curious and dreading finding out what my own change is." It's errs more on the side of curiosity than anything else. After all, it can't be any worse than what has already been done to her in her very long life.

She glances back to Stefan again, before brushing another gentle hand over the top of his head. "Hopefully he will turn back soon. I'm sure he's not a very useful boyfriend like this."

"It's not always fun to discover -- I turn into a tiny white cat."

Which while adorable is rather ineffectual. Chicago has weird anger management styles.

"He always turns back eventually. All of the shapeshifters do. I spent an extended time as a cat once though."

When Elijah and Klaus disappeared from Chicago.

If Freya had known that her ally in Seattle would die at the hands of her deranged aunt in the most painful way possible, she probably would have left town long before Liv and Detective Babineaux happened to arrive at her front door. If she had known that Liv was a zombie and that seeing her would trigger memories of the heated argument they had shortly before his death, as well as a little bit of magic, she would have never let Liv see her face.

She knows neither of these things, which is why she's silly enough to open the front door.

The moment she lays eyes on Liv she knows what's going on, makes note of the pale complexion and colorless hair. Her eyes widen in surprise before narrowing in confusion, glancing between the two of them for a moment before tipping her head to the side, curiously. "Can I help you?"

She nods slowly, before returning her focus to the deer as she starts to get to her feet. "Well, I hope that it's soon, then. I'm sure he doesn't make a very good boyfriend like this."

He's definitely not very good for boyfriend-ly things. Not that Freya has had a lover in a very long time, but she knows enough of love to know that one of them being a deer gets in the way more than it allows their relationship to continue.

"Oh, he's quite cuddly like this when he wants to be. But he's more handsome when he's just Stefan."

She has no doubt that eventually he'll be boyfriend shaped again. It always happens sooner or later.

"I hope so." Liv says in a matter of fact sort of voice. "Did you know a Victor Brown?"

It's a trick question. She knows Freya did. She's seen it from eating his brains. And being here in front of the girl is bound to trigger more.

"I'm sure he is." She smiles softly, before turning and holding up a hand to introduce herself. "My name is Freya."

Her brow furrows for a moment, before nodding slowly. "I do. He's a friend. Is everything alright?"

"Rebekah." There's a pause and then. "I had a sister named Freya, though I never got to meet her." Because as far as this Rebekah knows, Freya died before she was born.

[For a thousand years, Freya has ached for her father.

There were times when she was young that she had dreams of Mikael coming to rescue her, growing progressively more violent as she got older and her hatred of Dahlia grew, up until the point where she was old enough to realize that she was going to have to save herself. She didn't know the lie that Esther would have told her regarding what had happened to their oldest child, but she knew there had to be one, because she knew, knew so certainly that her father would never stand for this kind of injustice.

Her mother had given her away, but her memory of the tenderness of her father was so pristine, so intact, that not even the knowledge of what he had become or how he had hunted her siblings could break that. And now, she had him in front of her, the thing that she had wanted more than anything else for a thousand years, and she has no idea what to say to him.

She is home, finally, after so long, but it is because she has been gone for so long that she no longer knows her place in it.

She lingers in the hotel room for a moment, unsure of what to say or do so she defaults to what comes easiest.]

Can I get you anything?

[She pauses for a moment, before her hand goes to her wrist and she takes a step forward, pushing up the sleeve of her jacket as she goes.]

Are you hungry?

There is a moment where she weighs the pros and cons of revealing herself. In some ways she already did, back in New Orleans, but they had the balance of adversity on their side. Would Rebekah believe, even in a world as strange as this, that her sister had been returned to her? Would she even want her to be?

"Would you have liked a sister, if you had?"

"I think so. I love my brothers but it would be lonely in the boys club sometimes."

And she likes to think if she had had an older sister that sister would have looked out for her.

She would have, if she had been given the chance to. But that sentence gives her hope for a moment, and she shifts to rest back on her heels a little more. "And if I were to say that I was that sister? Would you want that?"

Rebekah stares for a long moment, unsure of what to say. "But my sister died before I was even born."

Or that's what she was told, anyway.

She can't help but grit her teeth at that, before shaking her head. "That is what you were told, but I assume that was the lie my mother chose to tell. I'm sure it wouldn't have gone over well with my father if she said that she sold me into slavery."

Rebekah's eyes widen at that. This is a Rebekah who has never had to deal with the true treachery of Esther.

"She wouldn't do that. She loved us, she loved her children."
