Cora is of the mind that there is nothing "just" about Alek, no matter how you slice it. There's something about him that she feels drawn to, and she would probably be more than comfortable admitting that he was her favorite of the "new" Hales she's run into. He always seems to get her more than anyone else has ever managed to, and she thinks that's far more important than being a master chef or an artist.

She's a girl of simple needs. All she wants is someone to understand her.

"You going to go for a run?"

[splinted]

"I just finished swimming."

He isn't adverse to running, but he's always been fond of the water. Like he can drown out the rest of the world if he swims fast enough, deep enough. It can tire him out, which is a miracle with his energy levels. "I was gonna go get some breakfast, actually. You want some?"

Right. Alek swims. Cora's never been much of a swimmer - she knows how, she just hasn't always had access to a pool or lake to make it a regular part of her routine. She will, however, perk up at the mention of food and nods eagerly.

"Yeah, I'm starving."

Shifting takes a lot out of you.

[splinted]

"I'd be surprised if you weren't," Alek says with an easy grin, opening the door for her once he's reached the back entrance that leads straight to the kitchen. He's gotten so used to Cora being here that he can't imagine the place without her now. It's dangerous to think like that, considering how fond the rift is of making people disappear, but he doesn't linger on that train of thought.

"Does the running help?"

"Yeah," she says with a nod. Running releases some of the stress, wears her out so that she starts the day relaxed and calm rather than tense and stressed. "But that's not why I do it. I ... I just like to run."

It makes her feel free, in a way that she hasn't in a very long time.

[splinted]

"I don't think I've ever really had that," he says after a moment of consideration. Alek doesn't talk about these things as a general rule, but it's different with Cora, for reasons that go beyond her being a wolf. "Doing something just because I like it."

He swims because it tires him out. He runs because it keeps him from thinking. His mother did always say he thinks too much.

Alek smirks then, almost like he's brushing off something that is otherwise revealing. "Unless eating counts."

Running keeps her from thinking too, and that's part of the reason why she enjoys it. It clears her head and all she needs to think about is her feet on the ground and her body moving forward. It reminds her that she can keep moving forward, even if it doesn't seem like she has something to move forward for.

Still, she laughs. "Eating is also something you need to do to survive, so I'm not sure. I guess it would depend on what you're eating."

[splinted]

He smirks at the sound of her laughter, content with the fact he's pulled it out of her whether he meant to or not. "Okay, okay." She's got a point there. "What's your favorite thing to eat that's purely indulgence and not for sustenance?"

Alek is grateful for his phrasing; he could've made that sound a lot dirtier than he meant to. Probably.

Cora grins for a moment, before tipping her head back to the side as she considers. "Ice cream. Definitely ice cream." Sweet creamy goodness with lots of yummy toppings shoved into it.
