Aw, come on, Cora! It was an accident, [ he whines. By now he knows how she feels about the fire thing, but it was honest mistake. Those happen in forges! You'd think they'd know that, with children of Vulcan around, but Leo supposes his Roman half-siblings don't experiment like he does. Lamers. ]

Maybe. But big fiery explosions tend to ruin everyone's day.

[She's just sayin'.]

It wasn't that bad, [ he says defensively. ] It was just an ordinary weapons accident! It wasn't even my fault, I swear. I was being careful! Miranda's the one who ran into me.

[impetere]

Uh-huh.

[She nods for a moment.]

So do we need a sign for the forge? "X number of days since last accident"?

[commandertoolbelt]

You know, I'm gonna say yes, [ he decides with a nod. ] Maybe that would help you guys remember that things are boring when I'm not around. Then when I come back it'll be like the greatest day ever! "Yay, Valdez is back! Now something exciting and fun can happen!"

Nothing personal? But "stuff on fire" doesn't really count as exciting and fun for me.

[In fact "fire" isn't even close to fun. She likes Leo, she does, but she is not fireproof like he is.]

Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be on fire, I guess, [ he says with a shrug. ] But the guys here don't really make anything fun! Where are the nutcase automatons? Where's the camouflaging armor used in totally inappropriate ways? You guys are so unprepared for the day I come bearing pranks.

[impetere]

Pranks are okay. Pranks I don't mind.

[A beat.]

So long as they don't involve fire.

[commandertoolbelt]

Trust me, there are plenty of pranks around that don't need fire. I should introduce you to some! Like the classic bucket and door technique - my OTP.

[impetere]

[She chuckles softly.]

That's usually good for a laugh. Unless you're the one under it.

[commandertoolbelt]

No, it's still fun if you know how to take a joke, [ Leo reasons, grinning. ] One of these days, obviously sometime after I leave, you or somebody else in this camp is going to find themselves with a bucket on their head, and then it'll be game on!

[She laughs.]

Why wait until you leave? Unless you're worried about the retribution.

Hey, Reyna’s still in charge, okay? I know better than to get on her bad side.

...Mostly.

[ Otherwise, he wouldn’t be out here. But he’ll still insist it was an accident. ]

[She smirks a bit, before nodding.]

Fair enough. But if you do it, then leave, that could mean you might never be able to come back.

[commandertoolbelt]

You say that, but I’ve got it all planned out, [ Leo confides, a mischievous spark in his eyes. ] I just make sure I stay away long enough for the, uh, incident to be forgotten. Then I can come back and everything will be good as new! It’s genius, really.

[impetere]

And if Reyna happens to have a memory like an elephant?

[commandertoolbelt]

[ He shrugs. ]

Then I’m screwed either way and might as well have fun with it while I can. It’s just more fun when someone comes with me, [ Leo confides, playfully waggling his eyebrows. ]

[You are trouble, Mr. Valdez. So much trouble. She squints at him for a moment, before considering.]
