[She nods again, before sighing softly.]

Look, no offense or anything - I'm not even sure Hogarth can get me out of this. What makes you think you can?

I'll come up with something. [a beat] I have it on good authority that you had a damn good reason for what you did. [he's -- not sure how he feels about the fact that she killed someone, but what else was she going to do? if she'd just hauled him into the cops or whatever, he would have been out again in thirty seconds, tops, and gone right back to hurting people]

[Pretty much. And Jessica didn't like that she had to do it either, but despite what a douchebag he was, Simpson was right. There was no winning while Kilgrave was still alive.]

Yeah. It's proving it in court that's the tricky part.

[aworldonfire]

We'll figure it out. [a beat] I owe you that much.

[please take a hint, Jessica. he doesn't just know the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, he is the Devil of Hell's Kitchen]

[It takes her a minute. She studies the curves of his face for a moment and the edge of his jawline. It isn't hard to make out the faint lines of bruises about to form from the hits she gave him in familiar places.

She leans back and eyes him differently now.]

So what now? You get me out of here, and then I join your little crime fighting squad?

[aworldonfire]

[he offers her a wry smile]

I'm kind of a -- a solo act? [there is no crime-fighting squad to join] I'm not doing this because I want something from you.

That's a first.

[Everyone always seems to be wanting her to join a team, but she's really not interested. She's not looking for the glory - nor is she looking to take out her considerable anger on criminals that might not necessarily deserve it.]

So you're doing this to what? Balance the scales?

[aworldonfire]

[he shrugs] Like I said, I owe you. [he screwed up. if he hadn't gotten involved, things might have gone better for her. so, pretty much, yeah]

[She takes a deep breath before leaning in closer.]

Do you really think you stand a chance of getting me off?

[aworldonfire]

I think I've got a better chance than Miss Hogarth.

[despite her connections and the fact that she's a shark]

And what makes you say that?

Pretty sure I'd have a better chance of finding people who can testify. [a beat] Pretty sure I can actually convince them to testify. [there's nothing threatening in the way he says that, for the record. he's not going to run out, find Kilgrave's other victims and threaten or beat them into doing what he wants. he just -- well, he has a reputation, now. a good one. better than it was when he first started with Fisk. people might be willing to do a favor for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen if he asks them. he's pretty sure Hogarth doesn't have that going for her]

[plus, if nothing else, he's relentless. if that doesn't work as well as he's hoping, he'll think of something else. he owes Jessica that much]

[She pauses for a moment, before reaching for whatever paper he has in front of him and turning it around to face her.]

There's a support group. You might get more help if you go as you.

[aworldonfire]

[Matt doesn't react to her taking the paper in front of him. it's notes on her case, anyway, and even if it wasn't, he doubts she'll be able to read it. it's in Braille, after all]

A support group?

[he ... doesn't really do support groups, but]

They're all people who were manipulated by Kilgrave. I found them myself.

[It's not much to go on, but it's a start.]

I know at least one of them will talk to you. His name is Malcolm. But I don't know how he'd hold up in court.

Not really the public speaking type?

[he feels like there's probably more to it than that, or else Jessica wouldn't have mentioned it, but]

Kilgrave turned him into a drug addict. He would feed his habit in return for doing errands for Kilgrave, mostly spying on me. At a certain point, it gets a little blurred on whether he was doing it because Kilgrave told him to or because he just wanted a fix.

[aworldonfire]

[and Matt winces on his behalf]

Fun. [a beat] Well. If nothing else, I can still talk to him. [maybe he can figure out how to make it work]

[She nods.]

Malcolm's a good guy. He's ... trying to make amends. He'll want to help.

[aworldonfire]

I'll keep that in mind.

[a beat]

Any other suggestions? People I should talk to? That kind of thing?

[She gives a small shrug.]

I'm sure Trish Walker has a lot to say, but a lot of it would be hearsay. I'm not sure if you could use it in court.
