[So you know who's really, really good at her job? Jessica Jones. While Sam tries - and man, does he try - he doesn't have the PI expertise in his skill set, doesn't know what voids to look for when you're looking for a man on the run, and months prior to this conversation, Captain Fucking America shows up on her doorstep looking for a favor.

She doesn't know who recommended her, but she'd kind of like to punch them in the face right about now.

Point of the matter is, you don't say no to Captain America, even when he insanely looking for a guy who's wanted in fifty different countries for crimes he's committed over the past ninety years (even if Steve claims that he was brainwashed, which given her personal experience she can believe.

He probably knew that. The bastard). Jessica pulls all her strings, raids all her contacts, and even takes advantage of some of the nice Avenger perks along the way, but at the same time she made sure to make herself clear that she isn't in the hero business anymore. She's only doing this so that Steve owes her one, because Captain America owing you a favor is something you only get to happen once. And when she's exhausted the last of those resources (because Bucky is better than good, he's a goddamn ghost), she meets him back at her office with what she does have, prepared to settle up.]

[Once upon a time, Captain America saved the life of a sixteen year old boy from Hell's Kitchen who actually got away with lying on the enlistment form. Like many people who meet a larger life figure in the middle of a bloody, horrific war he doesn't forget. When it gets out to the public that the famous sniper who watched his back is apparently alive, this now much older man sees his chance to repay a debt.

Steve barely remembers the incident, but he makes sure he knows that they are good with this. He has no idea how this will pan out, but Natasha isn't against it. Steve is desperate enough to hope this Jessica Jones will do better. (Yes, it does help that apparently she is inclined to believe that he was brainwashed. He's a real jerk sometimes.)

Steve's not terribly surprised when she doesn't find him. She does get more information than anyone else save for Natasha. For that, he's grateful.]

It's enough, Ms. Jones. [He smiles sincerely despite his exhaustion.] Probably for the best anyways. It wasn't right of me to ask for anymore than this.

[Her nose wrinkles a bit at the formality, but she'd get if they weren't close enough to be on a first name basis. Also because she doesn't like not finishing the job she was given, but that's another matter entirely.]

Hey, you asked me to do a job. If your boy wasn't so damn good, I might have been able to do better.

[He grimaces. It's hard not to own up to the obvious now that she's tapping out.] My boy isn't exactly safe to send anywhere after. You took a big risk on this one.

[Even for her.] I promise I'll pay back in kind.

I will hold you to that.

[Because Jessica isn't the type to forget a debt that's owed to her. Especially since most people don't let her forget the ones she owes to them.]

[He has to smile at that. Steve expects whatever she asks for won't be easy, but hey he gave her a challenge. It's only fair to return the favor.]

Regret helping a charming lady like you? [Somehow he says it in a way that makes it sound like the joke that it is. Must be that Captain America for all ages thing... or the fact he truly respects people. Either/or.]

[How dare you be so easily likeable, Steve. It's usually only Trish that leaves her in this good a mood. Regardless, she'll nod her agreement.]

Oh, it'll probably definitely be that.

[Probably not the kind of fun most people appreciate, but close enough.]

Besides, you probably like coming back to your old stomping ground every once in a while.

[More NYC than Brooklyn, because Hell's Kitchen is technically more Manhattan, but close enough.]

[He chuckles because there's certainly some truth in that.] I admit it would be nice to spend time around these parts when someone wasn't trying to destroy them.

[He grins in response. He gets the feeling that's her doing him a favor.] Let Trish know I'm grateful. [Steve rises to his feet. It's about time for him to go make some poor life decisions somewhere else.] Have a good day, Ms. Jones.

[He winks as if she needed any further proof he's teasing her.... and he's gone.]

[She watches him go, before shaking her head a bit, because she still can't believe that her job was to hang out with Captain America.]
