Alek doesn't answer her immediately.

They have certain similarities, him and Cora. They don't like being or feeling weak, and because of this, Alek has a tendency to put up a wall or shrug things off that otherwise matter. For some reason, he never has the inclination to do this with Cora. Maybe because he can sense she understands the defense mechanism, and she has scars of her own for all of their healing abilities. They aren't the kinds of scars you can see - not unless you're looking closely.

His touch lingers against her, as does his gaze, despite the fact she isn't looking at him. "You don't have to apologize to me," he says finally. He's the one that irrationally feels sorry for leading them to this room. "I just want to understand."
